Why Donate?
"The assistance helps me cope - it strengthens me and helps me live with less fears, more hope. The Society has helped me focus less on the disease - to live more without worrying about it."
- A Strengthening the MS Family participant
Every hour of every day someone is diagnosed with MS.
At this time, there is no cure for the disease.
This is why we need your support.
More than 6,000 people live with multiple sclerosis in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Taken together with families and friends, more than 18,000 people are affected by the disease locally. To serve this community, the National Capital Chapter provides a wide range of vital programs and services in the areas of counseling, education, employment, information and referral, public policy development and advocacy, and financial assistance.
The National Capital Chapter helps people at all stages of life with MS. Our workload never lightens and we must increase assistance for many of the people we serve over time. The Chapter relies on your financial support in all that we do so that people living with MS can continue to count on us.
In 2005, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society invested nearly $35 million in research into the cause, treatments, and cure for MS, with more than $2 million invested right here in the Washington, D.C. metro area. A portion of all contributions received at the Chapter help fund more than 350 research projects worldwide.
With your support, we can maintain and grow the programs we offer and reach more people throughout their journey with MS and invest more funds into research aimed at finding the cause and cure of the disease. From hosting Education Nights to Wellness Days, to making medical equipment loans and offering counseling, your contributions make it all possible. According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, donations from individuals make up 76% of all charitable giving.
Thank you for your interest in supporting the National Capital Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. We hope you will join us in our mission of ending the devastating effects of MS.
