Why should I start a team?
Have more fun and raise more money! Crossing the finish line with your co-workers, friends, or family makes the event even more memorable. Plus, statistically, people who participate as a member of a team raise more money on average to help fight MS.

What are the benefits of building a team?
For corporations or organizations, Teams will:
- increase your visibility and image in the community for little cost.
- show that your corporation or organization cares about finding a cause and cure for multiple sclerosis and assisting local families affected by this devastating disease.
- promote teamwork, bring together fellow employees or members, and increase morale within your company.
- excite employees or members by sparking friendly competition between managers and departments or committees as they vie to outperform each other.
- provide a vehicle for recognizing and publicizing individual and team accomplishments.
- be an easy and fun social event to organize.
- promote health & fitness, reducing sickness and lost productivity.
- allow for development into an even more effective marketing tool by complementing it with sponsorship of the event

- You will have the opportunity to develop and show-off your leadership skills.

What kind of team can I start?
Anyone can join your team - so consider asking your friends, family, co-workers, fellow members of your religious institution, school friends, community clubs or civic organizations.
Teams usually fall into one of the following five categories: Corporate, Friends & Family, Club or Organization, Religious, or School.

What is an official team?
An official team is a group of four or more fundraising team members participants or Super Spokes/Crew members) who each raise the fundraising minimum. After your four fundraising team members, crew members and volunteers can be team members too!
You must have an official team of four or more fundraising team members to be eligible for all team prizes and awards.

What is role of a Team Captain?
As the Team Captain, you are the leader, motivator and educator for your team. Your enthusiasm will encourage your team members to raise more funds and come back year after year.
- Educate your team about multiple sclerosis. It is important to have a basic understanding of this devastating disease and it's easier to raise money when you can explain our mission.
- Be a motivator! Promote your team goals and work to reach them.
- Discuss training and fundraising ideas with team members.
- Encourage team members to register, turn in pledges, and stay enthusiastic about the event.
- Remind the team members to ask their place of work about matching gifts.
- Recognize individual and collective accomplishments. You can send out a group email, hold team meetings or host a team kick off or post event celebration.
- Show up at the event with a smile!
- Thank all participants and sponsors for their support and let them know that you'll need their help again next year.

How does the Team Captain recruit the team?
- Schedule a Team Kickoff or gathering with the National
MS Society. Invite current and prospective team members.
We would love to come celebrate your team's involvement
and talk about our mission.
- Tell people about the event. NMSS is known for its high
quality, fun, special events.
- Remind all participants that their family members and
friends can also participate on your team or volunteer.
- Have a "new team member" registration meeting to encourage
each participant to recruit 1 more personal friend, family
member, neighbor or co-worker. Set a team goal for recruitment.
- Display brochures and a poster at your desk, on your office
door, or on your cubicle wall. Write "Ask me about our Team"
on the poster. (Don't forget about employee lounges, elevators,
or reception areas too.)
- Drop an event brochure or "attention memo" on everyone's
desk, via e-mail or in everyone's mailbox. (You never know
who might be interested!)

What resources are available to Team Captains?
As a Team Captain, you are a leader in the fight against MS and the Teams program is here to support you every step of your journey.
- Web tools at www.MSandYOU.org - Our newest fundraising tools allow registered participants to sign into their own participant center and build a personal web page, a team web page, send email requests and track fundraising. Tracking your efforts AND your team's success is easy!

Team Captain's Kit & Handbook - Upon registration, you will receive your Team Captains Kit and Handbook filled with fundraising and recruitment tips, information about multiple sclerosis, sample fundraising letters, memos and newsletter articles, plus brochures, posters, a team progress chart, and more.

Email newsletter, "Teaming UP!" - Regular email newsletters will keep you updated with fresh ideas, team fundraising success stories and time sensitive information.

Support from the Teams Program - The Teams Coordinator and other Teams representatives, including Teams Coaches and Ambassadors are here to help! We are available to visit your corporation or organization to talk about the Teams program or help set team goals. A representative can also attend your company's community fair and help you register your colleagues.

I want to start a team. How do I register?
Registration is easy:
1. Pick a team name.
2. Register your team by surfing your respective event webpage.

3. Send an email to your friends, family and co-workers asking them to join your team or make a donation! Remember to include a link to your personal web page.
Teams can choose from two different registration methods:
Team registration fee - the team fee covers the registration for all team members.
Individual registration fee - each team member will need to cover his or her own registration fee.
